The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is now accepting applications for the AAUW International Fellowship 2026.
This prestigious fellowship supports women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents to pursue full-time Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the United States. In addition, five awards will be given to members of Graduate Women International (GWI) to study in any country other than their own.
The program advances education and global equity for women, helping them build leadership, research, and professional capacity. The fellowship year will begin in July 2026.

The AAUW International Fellowship provides generous funding:
Master’s/First Professional Degree: $20,000
Doctoral Degree: $25,000
Postdoctoral Research: $50,000
Funds may be used for:
Tuition & educational expenses
Living expenses
Dependent child care
Travel to professional meetings, conferences, or seminars (up to 10% of fellowship total)
Renewable for a second year for up to five Master’s/first professional degree candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic performance in a two-year program.
Master’s/First Professional Degree: J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch., M.D., D.D.S., and similar programs.
Certificates, associate degrees, and undergraduate programs are not eligible.
Doctoral Fellowships: Research degrees such as Ph.D. or Ed.D.
Postdoctoral Fellowships: Must already hold a doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.B.A., D.M., or equivalent research degree) or M.F.A.
Gender: Must be (or identify as) a woman.
Academic Qualification: Hold a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s with a minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Study Level: Must be admitted or enrolled in a full-time master’s or doctoral program in the U.S.
Location of Study:
U.S. Department of Education-accredited institutions (for most applicants).
GWI members may study in countries other than the U.S. or their own, at institutions eligible for U.S. federal student aid.
