Deadline: 20 September 2025 (8:00 PM US CDT | GMT-05)
DevelopSpace has launched a grants program to support projects in science and engineering that openly share their results and methods. The program is especially interested in work that contributes to the human exploration and development of Mars, but projects relevant to the Moon and other destinations are also welcome.
The initiative encourages novel research, reviews and summaries of prior work, tool and database development, and educational activities with value beyond the grant period. Student- and volunteer-led projects are strongly encouraged.
Mars surface environments & hardware design guidelines
Resource availability & processing (water & non-water resources)
Landing site & outpost evaluation and surface operations
Power generation & energy storage, leveraging local resources
Mars surface science with human presence
Mission concepts for delivering very large payloads affordably
Mobility & exploration capabilities (regional and global scale)
Funding range: $500 – $2,500 per grant
Eligible uses: research expenses, travel costs, food for team activities, modest stipends, or to complement other support
Additional support:
In-kind contributions (data storage, computing resources, technical/scientific review, fundraising/admin support)
Non-monetary support for projects not funded, to help with resubmission in later rounds
Open to applicants worldwide (subject to US Government regulations)
Non-US entities may require additional time to coordinate funds transfer
Projects must produce open, reusable outputs with value beyond the grant period
Applications due 20 September 2025, 8:00 PM US CDT (GMT-05)
Earlier submissions encouraged
DevelopSpace will open 2–3 funding rounds per year; applicants can sign up for updates
This program supports the growing possibilities of affordable space exploration, made possible by lower launch costs and new payload capabilities.
