Grant Summary: Research Grants for Innovation in Financial Risks and ERM
A new call is open from the International Actuarial Association (IAA) to support original research that advances developments and innovations in financial risks, investments, and enterprise risk management (ERM).

CAD $20,000 – $30,000 (one-time grant)
Projects can last up to 24 months
Final report and scientific paper due within 27 months
Proposals are invited on research that addresses:
Climate change and its impact on financial risks, investments, and ERM
Financial resilience of retirement systems and insurers under economic and demographic stress
AI and machine learning in risk management
Systemic risk in insurance and reinsurance
Model risk and uncertainty in financial and investment decisions
Behavioural risk in ERM
Pandemics and their financial/investment impacts
Parametric insurance and its role in financial risk and ERM
Open to academics, practitioners, or mixed teams with relevant expertise
Research must:
Produce a peer-reviewed scientific paper suitable for publication
Include a presentation at an AFIR-ERM webinar and colloquium
Demonstrate novelty, impact, and practical relevance
Proposals (≤20 pages, ≤80,000 characters, 12pt font, 1.5 spacing) must include:
Title and short description of research topics
Current state of research with references to key publications
Applicants’ prior work and its relevance
Novelty of research and identified knowledge gap
Research plan: approach, objectives, studies, experiments, risk assessment, data sources, team roles
Impacts for science and practice
Statement of originality (not published/under review elsewhere)
Schedule with key milestones
Detailed budget with deliverables
Bibliography
Applicants’ résumés
Decisions announced: 1 February 2026
Selected projects must begin within 6 months of acceptance
Recommendation: Researchers with expertise in actuarial science, finance, or risk management should prepare a detailed, novel, and practice-relevant proposal.
