To be eligible, applicants must:
Intend to study in Japan from overseas
Be citizens of MEXT-designated countries
Be born on or after April 2, 1991 APU Admissions
Have a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale from their most recent degree APU Admissions
Ineligible if you:
Are on active military duty or employed by the military at application time
Have previously received a MEXT scholarship (unless fully expired and over 3 years ago) APU Admissions
Hold another scholarship not approved for concurrent receipt
Do not maintain “Student” visa status in Japan during studies APU Admissions
Apply to APU’s Master’s or PhD program by November 12, 2025.
APU reviews applications and selects the top candidates to recommend to MEXT.
Recommended candidates receive their final APU admission results.
MEXT announces scholarship results by end of June 2026 APU Admissions.
Submit your graduate application to APU by the November 12, 2025 deadline.
In your application, indicate your interest in the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship.
If selected for recommendation, APU will guide you through the remaining required processes.
