Purpose:
Fund projects that deliver science-based solutions to extreme weather events and natural hazards such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, droughts, floods, heatwaves, and severe storms.
Increase resilience and adaptability for both people and nature.
Eligible Project Areas:
Extreme Weather Field Research – collecting in-situ data for modeling, prediction, and rapid response.
Nature-Based Solutions – conserving or restoring ecosystems that increase resilience.
Technological Solutions – developing innovations like AI or autonomous systems for prediction and response.
Local-Level Strategies – strengthening community preparedness, response, and recovery strategies.
Eligibility:
Individuals 18 years or older (not current National Geographic staff)
Experience in leading, designing, or implementing science-based solutions to natural hazards
No formal educational requirement, but expertise and passion must be demonstrated
Applicants can submit only one proposal
