To support highly promising health scientists in full-time research training and help them transition from fellowship to independent (faculty-level) positions.
Duration: Up to 3 years, pending satisfactory progress.
Effort: Fellows must devote ≥75% of their time to the proposed project.
Budget: Up to USD 95,000 per year, which may cover:
Stipend (based on years of relevant postdoctoral experience)
Travel to scientific meetings (up to USD 2,000/year)
Journal subscriptions, books, training courses
Laboratory supplies or equipment (equipment only in Year 1)
Personal computer (up to USD 2,000, only in Year 1)
Health insurance costs
Restrictions:
No salary support for additional staff
No indirect costs
No tax or Social Security deductions made by Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D allows flexibility for applicants with career interruptions (e.g., parenting, caregiving, personal health issues, COVID-related delays).
