Breakthrough T1D is inviting applications for its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2025, designed to attract talented and promising scientists at an early stage in their careers who are pursuing research in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Fellows will work under the guidance of a sponsor within a strong training environment to launch their careers in T1D-relevant research.
Duration: 3 years (12-month fellowship terms, renewable annually with satisfactory progress).
Effort: Fellows must devote at least 75% of their effort to the fellowship project.
Award: Based on years of relevant postdoctoral experience.
Research Allowance: USD 5,500 annually for enrichment activities, including:
Travel to scientific meetings (up to USD 2,000/year)
Journal subscriptions, books, and training courses
Personal computer (up to USD 2,000, Year 1 only)
Restrictions: Allowance may not be used for laboratory supplies or equipment.
No indirect costs; no deductions for income tax or Social Security.
Fellowship research may be conducted at:
Domestic and foreign institutions
For-profit and nonprofit organizations
Universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories
State/local government units and eligible federal agencies

Applicant Eligibility
Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DMD, DVM, or equivalent) from an accredited institution
Not simultaneously serving in an internship or residency
Received most recent doctoral degree ≤5 years before application deadline
Early career researchers preferred
Flexibility: Applicants with career interruptions (parenting, caregiving, personal health issues, or COVID-related delays) are encouraged to apply. Breakthrough T1D will consider adjusted eligibility timelines.
