The American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship Program supports women pursuing postgraduate or postdoctoral studies in the U.S. or abroad. The fellowship promotes education, equity, and leadership, enabling recipients to apply their expertise and professional skills to positively impact their home countries.
Up to 5 awards are available for Graduate Women International members to study outside the U.S.

Fellowship Award Notification: April 15, 2026
Fellowship Term: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
First Stipend Disbursement: July–September 2026
Interim Report Due: December 15, 2026
Second Stipend Disbursement: January 2027
Grant Impact Reports Due: July 31, 2027
Must identify as a woman.
Must be admitted or enrolled in a first master’s, academic doctorate, or professional doctorate program.
Examples of master’s: M.A., M.S., M.B.A., M.F.A., L.L.M., M.Arch
Examples of doctorates: D.B.A., Ed.D., J.D., M.D., Ph.D.
Program must begin on or before September 1, 2026 and end on or after April 30, 2027.
Must hold at least one academic degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0.
Must study full-time at an accredited institution in the U.S. (or abroad if member of Graduate Women International).
Must reside in the U.S. or research country for the fellowship duration.
Non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents only.
Applicants may apply for only one degree type and one field of study.
Postdoctoral Research: Consider AAUW’s separate International Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.
Master’s Degree Fellowship: $20,000
Doctoral Degree Fellowship: $25,000
Disbursement: Two equal payments (beginning and midpoint of fellowship term)
The fellowship enables women leaders, researchers, and advocates to pursue full-time graduate studies in the U.S., gain global academic exposure, and contribute meaningfully to their home countries’ development through research and leadership.
